As they compete with Arsenal for Martinez's services this summer, Manchester United is eager to get him to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag and Lisandro Martinez might work together again at Manchester United.
In the midst of Manchester United's attempts to recruit Erik ten Hag this summer, Lisandro Martinez has already expressed his adoration for the player.
The Manchester Evening News said that as Ten Hag starts his summer reconstruction, United has made a €43 million (£37 million) offer for the Ajax defender. The United manager has begun to focus on other positions as deals for Tyrell Malacia and Frenkie de Jong are anticipated to be finalized soon.
As they look to improve their defensive options, United has now turned to Martinez. The target is the Argentina international after Jurrien Timber, who now appears likely to remain in Amsterdam, was initially given priority by Ten Hag.
Ten Hag already knows Martinez well because they were coworkers at Ajax, like many of his targets this summer. The 24-year-old played for the new United manager for three seasons before Ten Hag left for Old Trafford earlier this summer.
But while United searches for a new center-back, a reunion may very well be in the cards. And based on the note Martinez left for Ten Hag before leaving Ajax, the Argentine would enjoy the reunion.
"Hey Erik I would like to thank you for everything "In a touching video with current and former Ajax stars, Martinez made the statement. "I picked quite a lot about football from you. You improved my playing. You go out victorious. Due to your merit."
Martinez is available this summer, and while United are interested in signing him, they aren't the only team interested. This summer, Arsenal is also interested in the defender, and it is possible that the advances from the Gunners motivated United to move.
Malacia and De Jong's three-week vacation is about to come to an end, thus United will be hoping to intensify their pursuit of Martinez in the near future. Before departing on their preseason trip of Thailand, United hopes to complete the acquisitions of both players.
