OFFICIAL: CAF delay 2023 AFCON
Leader of the Confederation of African Football(CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has declared that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations won't occur as expected.
The 2023 AFCON, which will be facilitated by Ivory Coast, was initially planned to start in June 2023 and end in July 2023.
Mostepe affirmed the rescheduling of the competition from June-July to January-February 2024 during a public interview in Morocco on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
"TotalEnegies Africa Cup of Nation will currently be held in January and February of 2024," he said.
He additionally applauded the host country for working on the foundation and offices that would guarantee the competition's prosperity.
"And, surprisingly, said as much, I am so glad for the top notch foundation, offices, support from the president, Alassane Ouattara, the head of the state (Patrick Achi) and the entire bureau and the entire of football individuals in Cote D'Ivoire. I think the opposition will be exceptionally unique," he said.
As indicated by the CAF president, the new date is because of the Ivory Coast's high precipitation from June to July.
The 2023 AFCON qualifiers have previously started, with two gathering matches occurring in June 2022. The qualifiers will go on in September, with the capability round set to end in March 2023.
Ghana, who are in Group D with Madagascar, Angola, and the Central African Republic, won and drew their initial two games.
The Black Stars crushed Madagascar in the main game prior to drawing with Central African Republic in the second.
