According to reports, a Chelsea negotiating team has returned to London after spending three days attempting to persuade Sevilla to sell Jules Kounde.
After losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to La Liga, the Blues are looking to add a couple of defenders this summer.
Chelsea have been linked with a number of centre-backs in recent months, including Alessandro Bastoni, Mathijs de Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Milan Skriniar.
Sevilla center-back Kounde has been linked to Chelsea for over a year, with reports claiming the two clubs agreed personal terms last summer before failing to agree on a fee.
And now, according to El Chiringuito journalist Marcos Benito, Chelsea's 'emissaries' have been 'negotiating' in Seville for the last three days in an attempt to reach an agreement.
The talks over the France international are said to have ended in a 'no deal,' with Sevilla demanding €60 million fixed, with an additional €10 million in variables.
Chelsea, who could face competition from Newcastle United, allegedly did not'reach that figure,' and their transfer team'returned to London yesterday' after failing to reach an agreement.
Sevilla director Jose Maria Cruz de Andres revealed earlier this month that Kounde had asked to leave the club this summer, with the Frenchman hoping to play in a more competitive team.
"Again, I am sure the player respects Sevilla FC," Cruz de Andres said. He is content with us. It is not a matter of money in the case of Kounde. He wants to play for a team that is more competitive than Sevilla FC.
I am confident that he is a desirable player for clubs such as Chelsea, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and others. He wishes to join a more competitive team.
It's the same situation we had with [Clement] Lenglet a few years ago. He was overjoyed, but he believed that after a few years at Sevilla FC, he was ready to move to FC Barcelona.
We received our first offer for him a season before he was transferred. He [Lenglet] and his father told us that they didn't want to leave Sevilla at the time because they wanted to stay and play a lot of games.
Chelsea had a disappointing 2021-22 season due to off-field issues. Due to his connections with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is currently leading his forces in a war against Ukraine, former owner Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club.
The Blues were eventually bought out by a group led by American businessman Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. With new ownership in place, the London-based club expects bigger and better things next season.
