Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of midfielder Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion, according to Paul Merson.
Tottenham Hotspur have made the summer transfer window's first signing, according to Paul Merson, with the addition of Yves Bissouma.
Bissouma, 25, is one of four new arrivals at the Lilywhites this summer, having joined from Brighton and Hove Albion last month.
Tottenham have also signed Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, and Richarlison this summer as Antonio Conte prepares for his first full season in charge of the north London club.
Bissouma joins Spurs after scoring one goal and providing two assists in 26 Premier League games for Brighton last season, as well as making four appearances for Mali at the most recent African Cup of Nations.
Former Arsenal star Merson believes Tottenham's signing of Bissouma is an incredible piece of transfer business and wonders why Manchester United did not make a move to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
Merson chose Bissouma to Tottenham as his best signing of the summer transfer window so far, writing in his Sportskeeda column: "This is an unbelievable coup for Spurs as Yves Bissouma could have played for any of the other top-six Premier League sides." He's better than Scott McTominay and Fred; I'm surprised Manchester United didn't sign him!
He runs the show, has an immediate impact on football matches, and is an all-around midfielder with Premier League experience.
Without disrespect to the Spurs, why didn't other teams look at him and consider making a move for him? When I look at Liverpool's midfield, I believe he could play for them.
In this day and age, £25 million is nothing. Spurs got a steal with Bissouma, who is, in my opinion, the best signing of the summer in the Premier League so far.
Bissouma joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Lille in the summer of 2018, and he scored six goals in 124 appearances for the south coast club before joining Spurs.
He made his international debut for Mali in 2016, and he has since been capped 27 times, scoring three goals.
Tottenham will open their Premier League campaign against Southampton at home on the first weekend of the season.
