As Boehly intends a declaration, Chelsea ability to sign Neymar could be a realistic prospect
If Chelsea is not careful during the offseason, Barcelona will take a significant number of key Blues players. In addition to the Spanish club attempting to secure and hijack the majority of the English club's main transfer targets. To be honest, there were and continue to be far too many links and crossovers for it to be a coincidence. There must be an appreciation that leads to a concerted effort to replicate CFC's style. That is a strange pattern.
Todd Boehly, the new owner, would have known that this preseason would be challenging, with a slew of important tasks awaiting him and his staff.
However, I doubt he would have expected to be raided by a massive outfit for key personnel as well as all monitored prospective acquisitions. And perhaps this is why Barcelona is behaving like vultures over Stamford Bridge:
They saw a new chairman who was inexperienced in football and saw an opportunity to pounce on the presumed vulnerable. The ruse was undoubtedly inspired by Camp Nou's financial difficulties. Or perhaps I'm mistaken, and every similar link between the two is just false reporting and fake news.
Chelsea signing Neymar could be a real possibility, as Todd Boehly wants to make a statement.
A former Blaugrana star has also been mentioned in connection with a possible marquee move to Fulham Road.
Furthermore, Neymar Jr. is reportedly considering leaving Paris Saint-Germain after learning that they will consider offers for him.
According to the Daily Express, signing Neymar could now be a real possibility for Chels. Todd Boehly wants to make a "statement buy," and few people are more newsworthy than Brazil's superstar. Only the capture of Messi's PSG colleague could be topped by Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo, who is also rumoured to want a change of scenery and is admired by the Blues.
Realistically, having Neymar would either be a fantastic gift for Chelsea fans or a terrible curse of a switch for CFC. However, his ostensibly enormous salary would be quickly offset by the amount of revenue generated from merchandise such as sales of personalised shirts and the rest of it.
On the pitch is where it really matters, naturally. Let’s ignore the attacker’s Ligue 1 productivity: although the numbers are outstanding the division is rather inferior when compared with the ultimate Premier League. So, how do Neymar’s international and Champions League goal and assist contributions stack up?
Essentially the wingman is just as deadly in increasingly trying environments as well. For example, up until last season he was producing consistently standout UCL performances. While he is second on Brazil’s all-time goalscoring chart behind the absolute titan that is Pele. Enough said on quality.
However, I do not believe Neymar will join Chelsea because Manchester City's Raheem Sterling is expected to sign. The two play the same left wing, and Sterling will have been given a starting spot. Though the €90 million price tag for the Mogi das Cruzes-born player is well within the £200 million Bridge budget, spending elsewhere is more practical. There are still doubts about the former being as effective in the EPL. Thomas Tuchel was well aware of the mercurial maestro's problems.
