Maguire among 3 Man United stars who felt irked by Ronaldo's arrival
Three Manchester United teammates were upset by Cristiano Ronaldo's tearful return to Old Trafford at the beginning of the previous campaign.Almost 12 years after leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo joined the team. Last season, he led all goal scorers with 24 goals in all competitions, providing the little respite for the Old Trafford supporters during an otherwise miserable campaign. He undoubtedly made his supporters happy. Three of his club teammates, according to Mirror UK, were upset by his decision.
First and foremost was Edinson Cavani, who rightfully believed that he would be the club's first-choice striker prior to Ronaldo's transfer. Anthony Martial, who was assigned to Sevilla on loan in January, was the second. The last was club captain Harry Maguire, who apparently believed his leadership abilities were undercut by Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival.
Of the three, Edinson Cavani has left the team, but Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire are still there. With Ronaldo seems to be leaving Old Trafford, Martial and Maguire might not need to worry for very much longer. According to reports, the Portuguese has grown weary of the club's transfer business and doesn't believe it will be a title contender next year.
Without Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United players will not be better off.
If the rumors are accurate, it is absurd that some of his colleagues were bothered negatively by Cristiano Ronaldo's presence. With Harry Maguire as captain, the team has reached new lows. He has constantly performed poorly, and his leadership abilities have frequently come under scrutiny.
Despite having numerous chances to finish in the top 4, the squad under Harry Maguire unable to stop their downward spiral at any time last season and finished sixth.
Although Edinson Cavani occasionally displayed quality, the Uruguayan is past his prime and missed most of the season due to injury. In 16 appearances in all competitions last season, half of which were starts, he scored just two goals.
Last but not least, Anthony Martial has repeatedly proven that he is unqualified to be the line leader at Old Trafford. The Frenchman's dismal performances and issues with his attitude long ago sealed his doom. In 12 appearances for Sevilla last season, he scored just one goal.
In summary, the team would have benefited from consistently looking up to and listening to Ronaldo. If immediate progress is not achieved, it will be challenging to see this squad contend for the top 4 or even the championship next season.
