President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is credited with starting demonstrations in Ghana, according to Prophet Nicholas Osei aka Kumchacha, founder and head of Heaven's Gate Ministries International.
Kumchacha claims that President Akufo-Addo has a history of activism that dates back to 1995, during the time of the Jerry John Rawlings government.
"I'm 50 years old and I have experience in the subject. Nana Akufo-Addo is Ghana's first demonstrator. The VAT was a tax on products introduced by Rawlings, and Nana Addo was the one to stand up and lead a protest against it. Therefore, Nana Addo is the IGP of protests; he is the Dampare of protests, according to Kumchacha on Oman Channel.
He was referring to the Arise Ghana protest, which was held to draw attention to issues with President Akufo-present Addo's approach to government and the economy.
Kumchacha claims that although completely supporting the exercise of civil rights, including the right to demonstrate, he is opposed to the violence that marked the first day of the demonstration that took place between June 28 and 29, 2022.
"I don't think it's wrong for people to have protests, but I do think it's wrong to go on a protest and destroy government property knowing how horrible things are in the country. Additionally, I think it's wrong to carry weapons at a protest, he said.
Violence interrupted the first day of the Arise Ghana march when some demonstrators and police engaged in combat as a result of a squabble over the protest's route.
Some protesters started throwing stones at the police as a result of the violence, and the police responded by firing numerous bursts of tear gas. The cops detained more than 20 of the protesters.
In a widely circulated video, a senior police officer is shown punching a guy who had been detained during the demonstration; Kumchacha, who voiced displeasure with the officer's behaviour, said that if he had been the suspect, he would have responded in kind.
He responded, "That was wrong, and if I had been the victim, I would have bit the officer's balls and slapped him in retaliation.
