Roy Keane's Ronaldo comments resurface amid talk of Man Utd exit

The statements that former Manchester United player Roy Keane made in the past about recruiting Cristiano Ronaldo have lately surfaced in the context of recent speculation that the striker may be leaving his current team.

In May, Keane said that the Red Devils had bought the Portuguese player for the share price and the fans, but that the team needed a real offensive fix to their problems.

Last summer, the striker, who is now 37 years old, made the move to United from Juventus. After making a total of 38 appearances during the previous campaign, he finished as the team's leading goalscorer with 24 tallies. Even so, the Red Devils ended up in sixth place in the Premier League, which meant they couldn't play in the Champions League next year.

Sky Sports says that this is one of the reasons why the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has asked the club to let him out of his contract if he gets a good offer from somewhere else.

The Times says that Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to be allowed to leave Manchester United if the Premier League team gets a good offer during the transfer window.

As a result of these allegations, Keane's statements from the month of May have infuriated the ex-player for Real Madrid. According to the Manchester Evening News, he made the following statement on Sky Sports:

It was a temporary solution, both for the company's loyal customers and for the stock price. However, he was still able to score goals. There are much more significant issues facing Manchester United than Cristiano Ronaldo. Simply put, I believe that he ought to be allowed to remain with the club in light of the goals he has scored and the performances he has turned in. However, Manchester United has to find players who can play with him; they need to sign additional attackers; and there must be competition for positions in the team. He continues:

"If the top scorer, the man you depend on, is 37, that is definitely not good, but I would definitely keep Ronaldo," he added. "If the top scorer, the man you rely on, is 37, that is definitely not good." But why should a player who has scored this many goals be removed from the team? I just don't see how that makes any sense. "

Although the Portuguese captain has had a respectable individual season, the players surrounding him, such as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, have had a great deal of trouble. They did not come up with a form that would be beneficial to the club.

This summer, Manchester United has not yet brought in any new players to the club. According to the article from Sky Sports that was discussed before, there is yet another reason why their talisman wants to quit the club.
