Teachers associations pronounce strike over Cost-of Living-Allowance

 

The Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union have compelling today, Monday, June 4, 2021, started a cross country strike activity.

 

The strike as indicated by the initiative of the Teacher Unions, is a consequence of the disappointment of government to satisfy their need for a 20% Cost of Living Allowance.

 

"We have been constrained under the ongoing conditions to freely convey to Ghanaians on our expectation to picket having gone passed the June 30, 2022 cutoff time we gave government for the installment of Cost-of-Living-Allowance. Therefore, we have chosen to leave on a Strike Action, viable today, Monday, July 4, 2022.

 

"By this, we are illuminating the overall population that, we are pulling out the entirety of our administrations in all the Pre-tertiary instructive space. (Educating and Non-Teaching Staff)," the gathering expressed in a public statement.

 

As framed in their delivery, the educator associations say their interest for COLA has been impacted by high expansion prompting unremitting addition in costs of fuel, labor and products.

 

The strike activity by the educator associations has been affirmed to GhanaWeb by the General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Tanko Musah.

 

The strike comes as a heap on to the strain on the public authority of Ghana which has been doing combating with a demolishing financial emergency.

 

The public authority through the Ministry of Information on Friday, June 1, 2022, reported a choice to look for a bailout from the IMF to moderate current monetary difficulties confronting the country.
