His most crucial contributions at Villa saw him help the club pull off the Great Escape from relegation in 2020, as well as a stoppage time winner against Leicester to send Villa into the Carabao Cup final in the same year. After a serious knee injury in 2021, the Egypt international returned earlier this year before joining Istanbul Basaksehir on-loan. He is the second player to leave Villa Park during the current transfer window, following Matt Targett’s £15m switch to Newcastle.

The winger completed his move to Turkey for a reported £4.25millon, bringing an end to his three-year spell at the club. Trezeguet had spent the latter half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir, where he scored six goals and provided four assists in 13 league games, prompting interest from the reigning Super Lig champions. The 27-year-old’s opportunities had become limited at Villa Park after losing his place in the side as a result of an ACL injury in April 2021. On the side-lines for nine months, the Egypt international made one appearance under current Villa boss Steven Gerrard before leaving on loan in February. Showcasing his penchant for arriving at the back post, he scored three goals in Villa’s final four league games to help Dean Smith’s side narrowly avoid relegation. The winger had shown himself to be in the right place at the right time earlier in the season, when he connected with Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross in the final minute against Leicester City to send Villa to the League Cup final. Arriving from Kasimpasa upon Villa’s return to the top-flight, Trezeguet scored nine goals and provided five assists across 64 games - but most importantly created several moments that will live long in the memory of the Villa faithful. Upon announcing his departure to Trabzonspor, the club sent a message to Trezeguet alongside a compilation of his finest moments in a Villa shirt: “For the big goals and big moments when we needed them most...Thank you, @Trezeguet.” To which the winger replied: “Thank you for everything and I wish you all the best in the future”.
