Defender ‘will be a Brentford player’ – Will undergo medical ‘in next few days’, five-year contract

While the news that Brentford FC are getting closer to sealing a deal for Aaron Hickey is known, Corriere di Bologna bring a few more details on Monday. They make it clear the latest bid from the Bees is the ‘right offer’, with the Serie A side set to receive €20m ‘including bonuses’. In fact, they are sure the Scottish defender ‘will be a Brentford player’, as they are ‘the only club to have presented an official proposal in recent weeks’, and increased it, finding an agreement ‘for a figure of around €16.5m plus various bonuses’ that will take it to ‘just over €20m’. The Italian newspaper continue by reporting Hickey that ‘in the next few days’, the player ‘will undergo medical examinations in England and then sign a five-year contract’. Part of that fee ‘will go from Bologna to Hearts’, who kept a percentage ‘of around 10% of a future resale’ when they initially agreed to sell him to the Italians. As for Brentford, they are getting a promising left-back, who was also reportedly courted by Arsenal, giving him a platform to impress in one of the world’s biggest leagues, and will eventually be hoping to make a profit of their own down the line.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that the former Hearts standout will fly to London this week to complete the long-term deal. 1 Brentford manager Thomas Frank has reportedly won the race for Hickey We previously told you on SunSport that Bologna's new sporting director had confirmed the exit of the Scotland international star. He said: "As far as the outgoing market is concerned, the two players who will be leaving our club at the moment are Aaron Hickey and Matias Svanberg. "Our priority at the moment will be contract renewals because we have a lot of players expiring in 2024 and we absolutely want to be ready. "Next season, we want to be challenging for a European place." The 20-year-old netted five times for the Italian side last season in an impressive debut season in Italy. "Full package could be worth €22m, add-ons included. Deal confirmed." Arsenal were also reportedly chasing the hot prospect who recently made his international debut. The 20 year-old was linked with a move to Emirates this summer as a back up to fellow Scotland star Kieran Tierney may be required for the upcoming season.
