Five individuals have been killed and 16 more injured in a shooting at an Independence Day march in Highland Park, Illinois, the neighborhood media provided details regarding Monday, refering to authorities.

The shooting occurred around 10 minutes after the motorcade started at 10am neighborhood time in the Chicago suburb. Police encouraged individuals to disperse and were seen watching the region with rifles in search of the shooter.

A video has surfaced web based showing individuals running in alarm as they hear shots being discharged during the celebrations.

High country Park Mayor Nancy Rotering tweeted that the town's Fourth Fest had been dropped and asked residents to stay away from the midtown region.

Sources refered to in neighborhood media guaranteed the shooter might have been terminating from on a high structure.

Several adjoining communities, including Deerfield, Evanston, and Skokie, have dropped their Fourth of July events "to be as cautious as possible."

Illinois congressman Brad Schneider, a Democrat, tweeted that he had been toward the start of the procession course while the shooting broke out.

"Becoming aware of loss of life and others harmed," he said in a tweet.

The shots were discharged around Central Avenue and Second Avenue along the motorcade course in midtown Highland Park, a well-off suburb north of Chicago. While its metropolitan neighbor is infamous for elevated degrees of firearm brutality, Highland Park itself is by and large considered to be amazingly safe, with vicious crime percentages 75% below the public normal.

Sources cited in local media claimed the shooter may have been firing from atop a high building.

Several neighboring communities, including Deerfield, Evanston, and Skokie, have canceled their Fourth of July events “out of an abundance of caution.”

Illinois congressman Brad Schneider, a Democrat, tweeted that he had been at the start of the parade route when the shooting broke out.

“Hearing of loss of life and others injured,” he said in a tweet.

The shots were fired around Central Avenue and Second Avenue along the parade route in downtown Highland Park, an affluent suburb north of Chicago. While its urban neighbor is infamous for high levels of gun violence, Highland Park itself is generally viewed as remarkably safe, with violent crime rates 75% lower than the national average.
