Previous Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson says he has no question the public authority would have rushed to the IMF regardless of whether there was no Covid-19 pandemic or Russia-Ukraine struggle.

Addressing GTV on the Breakfast Show on Monday, July 4, 2022, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency contended that from the fumble of the decision government beginning around 2017, it was never in uncertainty that this day will come.

 

"The 2022 financial plan lost the certainty of the financial backers. The very day it was perused worldwide financial backers responded adversely toward Ghana's economy.

 

"Back in 2019, we utilized 78% of our duty income to support just obligation. The circumstance deteriorated in 2020.

 

"Returning to the IMF is idiocy at the most elevated level. I saw it coming a year prior," Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson shared.

 

As per him, the public authority actually should tell the truth and illuminate the populace regarding how terrible the circumstance is.

 

"Ghana would have gone to IMF without Covid-19 or Russia-Ukraine war… .I am encouraging the public authority in all honestly and let us know the greatness of a rescue," Dr. Ato Forson added.

 

Last Friday, the public authority through a public statement from the Ministry of Information affirmed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has imparted the expectation of his administration to look for IMF backing to the initiative of the asset.

 

In the delivery endorsed by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, it said Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been coordinated to draw in authorities of IMF for the required help.
