Manchester United and Arsenal have been interested in signing Lisandro Martinez for some time, and the latest reports are encouraging for the Old Trafford faithful.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are ready to sign the Argentine international from Ajax in a £40 million deal.

According to the renowned British news source, the presence of the Dutch side's chief negotiator, Huntelaar, in the UK over the weekend indicates that a deal is close.

It is also stated that all parties involved believe the 24-year-old central defender will complete his move to Manchester United before the Premier League club departs on its pre-season tour on July 8th.

Arsenal have already strengthened their squad by signing Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus, but it appears that they will lose the race to sign Martinez.

Both United and Arsenal are unable to offer Champions League football, but the presence of Ten Hag may have put the Red Devils in a strong position to complete the signing.

Last season, the South American was a standout for Ajax in their title-winning season under the 52-year-old coach.

The La Albiceleste center-back started 23 league games for the Dutch giants and contributed to 17 clean sheets (conceded just 7 goals).

The Johan Cruijff ArenA team has been the best in the Netherlands for a long time, so playing for them does not guarantee that Martinez will make an immediate impact for the Man Utd side, who were poor at the back last season.

The Portuguese superstar's future at Old Trafford appears to be influenced indirectly by Antonio Conte, whom Ronaldo was said to be opposed to joining United last year.

Antonio Conte may have an impact on Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United... less than a year after he'vetoed' the Italian's appointment at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo wishes to leave Manchester United after only one season due to the club's failure to secure Champions League football. The 37-year-old returned to United last year, but the move did not go as planned, as the club finished sixth in the Premier League last season, 11 points behind the top five and suffering through a miserable season.

United have no plans to replace Ronaldo this summer, but Brazilian forward Antony is said to be one of the top transfer targets for new manager Erik ten Hag, who wants to reunite with the 22-year-old - Ajax's star player last season. United are said to be in pole position to sign the Brazilian due to his strong relationship with United manager Jose Mourinho at the Amsterdam Arena, and the player's representatives recently traveled to Europe to discuss a possible summer transfer.
