Yaya Toure, a former Barcelona midfielder, is pleased to see fellow Ivorian Franck Kessie join the Nou Camp.
Barca confirmed Kessie's free transfer from AC Milan today.
"It's true that I called him during the negotiations with Barça," Toure told Mundo Deportivo. How did you find out? (laughs). We kept in touch during this time, and he called me several times because he knew I was familiar with Barcelona.
To be honest, we talked for days because he wanted to know everything there was to know about this place. Milan offered him a new contract, and they are a great club, but Barcelona was adamant. I told him that if he wanted to leave, he needed to go to Barcelona. I explained to him that he needed to play well from the start, have a positive attitude, and be as focused as possible.
"Physically, he is a very powerful midfielder, and I believe he can still improve a lot in several aspects," Toure added. He's a fantastic player, and if he keeps the confidence he showed at Milan, I believe he'll be a star.
He is fully aware, and he treats me almost like an older brother, as he pays close attention to me. He'll be at a top club now, surrounded by great players. I am overjoyed for him and Barcelona.
