According to reports, CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has decided to join Manchester United for nothing.
Christian Eriksen is currently expected to join Manchester United on a free transfer, therefore Tottenham manager Antonio Conte will likely be forced to pass up a bid for the Danish player this summer. In recent months, Eriksen has been strongly associated with a potential return to Tottenham, who were thought to have been considering the notion of bringing him back to north London.
Eriksen did verbally agree to join United before the new Premier League season began, therefore United has appeared to be able to skip the line in the competition for his services.According to The Athletic, the 30-year-old has expressed a willingness to sign for United on a planned three-year agreement, subject to the completion of a physical and the finalization of his contract.
Tottenham will have to seek elsewhere in their pursuit of a new creative midfielder, who is thought to be high on Conte's list of summer priorities, as Eriksen's upcoming departure to United will compel them to. The club has been linked with a number of alternative targets in recent months, so the Italian manager likely has plenty of leads to investigate in the coming weeks and months.
James Maddison, who made an impression with his playmaking skills and dead-ball knowledge at Leicester City, is one of the names that have been linked to Tottenham. Spurs have been keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old for some time, and according to football.london, the Foxes would not be completely opposed to the thought of a sale but would likely demand a transfer fee in the neighborhood of £42 million.

But if Conte genuinely thinks Maddison would be a good addition to his team, it could not be out of the question for those in charge at Tottenham to pursue a transfer for him in the not-too-distant future.Lucas Paqueta is another player who would cost money; Conte is reportedly keeping an eye on the Lyon ace ahead of the ensuing season.
Paqueta contributed nine goals and six assists for Lyon throughout the course of the previous season, and his attacking efforts enabled the French powerhouses to finish seventh in Ligue 1. Although Dejan Kulsevski's signing in January shows that Conte is unlikely to be deterred by Paqueta's lack of Premier League experience, it does suggest that he might take longer to adapt than a player like Maddison.

The Spurs manager is known for pursuing players from Serie A, and he may visit the Italian market again to consider a move for Mikkel Damsgaard, one of Denmark's breakout stars at Euro 2020 last summer. Currently playing for Sampdoria, the versatile 22-year-old has been speculatively linked with Spurs over the past year. However, it is unclear whether Conte will decide to approve a move for his signature after missing out on Eriksen.
Jesse Lingard, a former United midfielder, is probably being considered by Tottenham as he considers his next move, so he could also decide to follow the free transfer route and sign him. However, the north Londoners have not yet made a firm decision regarding their desire to bring him to the capital. They will need to move quickly to be successful and outbid a number of other clubs who are rumored to be considering separate moves for the 29-year-old.
Conte will need to find a new playmaker who is forward-thinking if Tottenham wants to maintain their status as a top-four team in the Premier League this season, regardless of what happens in the market this summer. Eriksen, however, is now categorically out of the picture, therefore the 52-year-old will have to make do with one of his many other targets.
