IMANI Africa Deputy President Kofi Bentil has criticized the government for the plight of Ghanaians in the country.

He said the job of political candidates was not to live in poverty and feed the poor.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo cannot continue to fly on an expensive private jet in these difficult times where some less expensive options are available.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy News today, he said he was adamant that the people's bread and butter issues were unresolved but the President saw it as prudent to spend so much money on private airlines.

"You have no right to live like the king of Arabia when other people can't afford to eat, that's why we will always have problems with things like the President's plane crash if you have another option. it is not because the person does not like anything. We say that as leaders connect with our common truth. Your job is not to live at our own expense. Yours is doing everything we can to alleviate our situation, ”he said.

He added that Ghana's economic crisis had begun even with Covid-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“We are in a suburb where similar situations intersect and you do not see the same situation elsewhere. Prior to these external conditions, we had problems and talked about these problems and one of the things we said before Covid, before the Ukrainian war that managing the economy as if we would not be in trouble is unwise. At the time, when we were discussing free SHS at IMANI we said you can't put all your resources into one plan. It is not wise. So our problems started before Covid. Book loan, borrowing, corruption, waste, corruption, V8 culture was pre-Covid. After that Covid hit us and made things worse, ”he emphasized.

He added that in the midst of the struggle the government was still bringing in an E-levy to oppress the poor Ghanaians.

According to him, "whenever we have a problem they come back to the same poor citizens and force us to give even more than we have."
