The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said it's far appealing the severa instructor unions finally of on their choice to embark on an indefinite strike over their rate of dwelling allowance (COLA) and to find out a way earlier.
“Management has thinking about invited the control of the Unions to a meeting to speak approximately the development and the way earlier,” the GES said in a statement issued on Tuesday, 5 July 2022.
According to the statement: “Heads of Senior High Schools had been directed via the Regional and District Directors to mobilise their control companies to make certain the safety and properly being of all university college university college students in schools.”
It moreover recommended mother and father to “live calm” due to the truth the GES is monitoring situations and will “advice on the way earlier accordingly.”
The Teacher Unions which have declared an indefinite strike encompass the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCTG) and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
According to the Teacher unions, government did now not meet the Thursday, 30 June 2022, deadline to pay the COLA.
Speaking at a press conference held on Monday, 4 July 2022, General Secretary of GNAT Thomas Musah said: “We had been compelled below the contemporary events to publicly communicate to Ghanaians on our goal to move on strike having extended beyond passed the 30 June deadline we gave government for the rate of rate of dwelling allowance,” the general secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah, addressed the media.

By this, we are informing the general public that we are taking flight services in all the pre-tertiary education institutions. This includes training and non-education staff.”
