An international and Premier League football player has been detained in north London on rape allegations.
According to the Telegraph, the 29-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was brought into jail on Monday morning and is still there.
According to the Metropolitan Police, a lady in her 20s was allegedly raped on July 4 and reported to the police.
The alleged rape reportedly took place in June 2022.
"A 29-year-old male was detained at an address in Barnet on July 4 on suspicion of rape and placed into custody where he currently resides," the statement continued.
A Premier League football player in his late 20s was taken into custody in north London on rape allegations.
Due to legal restrictions, the player, a full international, cannot be named. Police are currently questioning him regarding the alleged attack that took place last month.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "According to StechiteGist Media, police were purportedly alerted of a rape allegation involving a woman in her 20s on July 4.
According to reports, the alleged rape took place in June 2022.
The police added that the man "was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and put into jail where he remains."
It stated that investigations into the events were in progress.
According to a later police statement, the Premier League football player in question, who was arrested early on Monday, is 29 years old.
According to The Telegraph, the player's club is aware of the situation but has decided not to comment.
The alleged athlete was also slated to compete in this year's World Cup in Qatar, which starts in November, according to their inquiry.
As the upcoming Premier League season, which starts in a month, approaches, teams are leaving on preseason tours. The player in question may or may not participate in any of these tours.
