Liverpool players show up for their first day of their pre-season training

On Monday, a slew of Liverpool players returned to pre-season training as Jurgen Klopp's team ramped up preparations for the new Premier League season.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was joined by several key players from the club, including Luis Diaz, Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliot, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Players who represented their countries in post-season matches, including Mo Salah, who recently signed a new long-term contract with the club, will return from their extended breaks on July 9.

It was a happy reunion for players who had previously parted ways for the summer following Liverpool's agonizing Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Individual fitness assessments were carried out at Liverpool's  AXA Training Complex Champions of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup must be observed on the treadmill and in the gym.

Henderson was put through his paces as the 32-year-old was photographed running with a breathing apparatus while Klopp's medical team kept a close eye on his performance.

The England midfielder is one of several Liverpool players hoping to kick off the new season with places in World Cup squads on the line ahead of the Qatar World Cup, which kicks off in November.

The Liverpool and England international was joined by fellow Brits Joe Gomez and James Milner on indoor bike trainers, where the three were seen laughing.

Carvalho, the club's new summer signing, reported for his first day as a Liverpool player  after joining from newly-promoted Fulham this summer.

The Portuguese attacker was introduced to some of his new teammates and underwent a series of tests during the fitness-focused training session.

Carvalho will challenge Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Fabinho, Elliott and Henderson for a regular place in Liverpool's midfield next season after scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists in the Championship last season.

Colombian star Luis Diaz was spotted with a new haircut, ditching his previously fuzzy afro in favor of new blonde highlights.

Diaz quickly became a fan favorite after joining in the January transfer window, adjusting quickly to the demands of Premier League football and scoring six goals in 21 appearances.

Veteran James Milner tweeted that he was 'back with the boys for number 21' as he aims to help the club win a second Premier League title after falling short against Manchester City on the final day of the previous season.

The 36-year-old signed a new one-year contract with Liverpool, with next season expected to be his final with the club.
