Former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly close to landing his next managerial job. The Portuguese coach arrived at Molineux in 2017 and had an instant impact as his side stormed to the Championship title and guided Wolves back to the Premier League. In the club’s first season in the top-flight, the former Porto boss steered the team to a seventh-place finish in 2019 and secured a Europa League spot, as well as reaching Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals. That was Wolves ’ highest league finish since 1980 and the first time the club had earned European football since 1981. The following campaign, Espirtio Santo ’s side replicated their league position and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League, before being knocked out by eventual champions Sevilla. It was announced two days before the end of the season that Espirito Santo was set to leave the club by “mutual consent”, bringing an end to his four-year spell in charge. Having been out of work since being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in November 2021, it has been reported that Espirito Santo is nearing a return to management. French outlet Foot Mercato has claimed that the ex-Wolves boss is “close to signing” a contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad. Shortly after leaving Molineux, the 48-year-old was appointed as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, though was given less than five months in charge before being replaced by Antonio Conte.
