The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has urged Ghanaians to be security-conscious in order to safeguard the nation's sovereignty.
He asserted that individuals needed to back the government's "See something, say something" campaign because the nation's neighbours were now dealing with terrorist threats.
The Presiding Bishop stated, "We know the risks that are coming to us from all of our borders; they have grown so serious that we do not have to sit unmoved."
a cornerstone
At yesterday's event to set the cornerstone for the Calvary Methodist Church's new chapel in Accra, the Most Rev. Dr. Boafo gave a speech.
He made the observation that Ghanaians were far too forthcoming with information, and that as a result, they should be very careful going forward.
Insofar as I recommend that we preserve our welcoming character, we should also be careful of our security, understanding the society we live in now, he said. "We meet people nowadays and we give them a lot of information about us and our loved ones.
We should be sure to report any strangers loitering to the police or security authorities so that they can deal with them, he added. "Churches, neighbourhoods, schools, instructors, all of us must teach youngsters how to be security sensitive," he said.
Features
A seven-story office building, a parking lot, and a 1,500-seat church are all included in the $3 million project.
It was begun five years ago, and it is anticipated to be finished by 2025 in time for the church's centennial anniversary.
According to the Presiding Bishop, the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone was essential because it demonstrated that the church was being built upon the rock-solid foundation of Jesus Christ.
In his lecture, he stressed how much effort and time both young and elderly church members had put into raising the church edifice to its present height.
They had made Jesus the cornerstone of the church, according to the Most Rev. Dr. Boafo, and as a result, they were witnessing the constancy and kindness of the Lord.
Storms can be surmounted by Christ.
He said that although the globe was going through a difficult period, those who could withstand it and weather it were those who would continue to develop families, businesses, and nations.
"We are all engaged in the construction of organisations, industries, families, nations, and even individual lives. The nations, families, and organisations that will endure are those whose foundation is Jesus Christ, the Rock "declared the Presiding Bishop.
He urged Ghanaians, especially Christians, to establish their lives on the teachings of Jesus Christ in order to weather life's storms.
Commendation
Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, commended the church for its audacious effort to further the Kingdom of God.
Church structures are significant because they provide a regular gathering space for people of faith, the First Lady remarked in a speech read on her behalf by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
No of their socioeconomic standing, Christians have a secure space where they may both worship God and spend time with one another.
"I hope and pray that people will feel at home in this beautiful church edifice. It must be seen as a secure haven of safety for those in need and those looking for spiritual rejuvenation, she urged.
The Methodist Church, according to Mrs. Akufo-Addo, has always been a valuable partner of the state in the construction of schools, hospitals, and social interventions. She urged the Methodist Church to continue working with the government to create a dynamic nation.
