A non-governmental organisation from India that operates in Ghana has advised the general population to prioritise routine health exams as a preventative tool to identify and address potential health hazards.
A philanthropic organisation called the Uttarakhand Association of Ghana (UAG) was founded in Ghana.
A Core Team Member of the association, Harish Chandra, stressed the importance of routine health checkups at a free health screening event in Accra as part of activities to mark the 75th anniversary celebration of India's independence. He cited the need to prevent life-threatening diseases like severe heart issues.
"Visiting a medical institution should not only be about getting better, but also about learning about preventative actions," he stated.
Nabin Chandra Pandey, the president of UAG, stated in a subsequent interview that the group had learned with worry that individuals frequently concentrated only on their jobs without getting regular health checkups till they became ill.
As a result, he explained, the association decided that its first free health screening and consultation should focus on a full blood count, blood pressure, sugar, eyesight, and cancer tests, among other things. This would raise public awareness of the importance of getting regular checkups and actually assist the populace.
According to him, the organisation also saw it as part of its corporate social obligation to offer these services to the Ghanaian community, which had embraced the Indian community and provided them with the favourable conditions they needed to expand their businesses.
financial limitations
Mr. Pandey claimed that one of the biggest barriers preventing individuals from going to regular health checkups was a lack of financial resources.
So that more people could check their hearts and receive the free consultation, he added, "we decided to hold the free health check-up and consultation camp."
The group, he said, gave food to some people in need during the height of the COVID-19 epidemic and the ensuing lockdown, and he emphasised that many deaths happened as a result of people not being aware of their cardiac condition.
"Once you are aware of your heart, for example, you would know that you have problems with diabetes and hypertension, which would then enable the person work with a doctor via examination to address the illness.
According to him, it would increase the treatment's speed and agility.
health examination
Seven medical professionals from diverse institutions around the nation, including physician consultants, dentistry specialists, and eyesight specialists, offered to assist the general public.
The exercise, which the group said it will expand to other regions of the country to raise awareness of routine health checkups, cost an estimated GH$55,000 to complete.
The organisation, which presently has 12 core members and more than 100 members, was founded to encourage Indian nationals in Ghana to embrace their culture, particularly among their local-born children.
