Tyrell Malacia, a left defender, has been acquired by Manchester United from Feyenoord for a rumoured sum of £12.9 million.

The 22-year-old has signed a deal that runs through June 2026 with the possibility of an additional year's extension.

Under new manager Erik ten Hag, Malacia is United's first acquisition in the summer transfer window.

Malacia told the team website, "Joining Manchester United is a fantastic sensation.

"This is a new chapter for me; I'm playing in a new league with new teammates under a fantastic management. Because I've competed against his teams in the Eredivisie, I am aware of his strengths and the standards he has for his players.

"While I am aware that I am still a young player and will continue to advance, I can assure the United supporters that I will give my all each time I put on the red shirt. I will always be grateful to Feyenoord for everything they have done for my family and me.

If not for them, none of this would be possible. I'm now prepared to concentrate on United's future and support the success of my new team.

According to reports, Lyon and the Eredivisie club had verbally agreed to a deal for the left-back before United swooped in and ruined it.

Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona who is allegedly close to joining United this summer, and Malacia have the same agent.  Christian Eriksen, a free agent who had a short-term deal with Brentford, also appears to be on the verge of joining United after verbally agreeing to join the team.

Last season, Malacia played 50 times for Feyenoord.

The five-cap Netherlands international will probably be included in Louis van Gaal's lineup for the World Cup in Qatar in November.

"Tyrell is a vibrant, energetic young footballer with exceptional experience for his age, including five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final, and full international honours for the Netherlands," Man Utd football director John Murtough stated.

"We are eager to see him grow in the years to come under the direction of Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff."
