Darwin Nez left Benfica to join Liverpool this summer after becoming the Portuguese league's best scorer last season. In an interview with the daily A Bola, the Uruguayan international addressed the Eagles' last season, marked by the resignation of Jorge Jesus in December 2021 and the entrance of the then B team coach.

"With Nélson Verssimo, I think I was more comfortable. I didn't have as much pressure and I think the same thing happened with the rest of the players," he remarked. first said,

“Maybe at times there was a little more companionship, a little more socializing between all of us, outside of games, outside of training, so that we could all get to know each other better." I usually maintain that things are won in groups, not individually. We were all outstanding, and we knew what we had to do. Unfortunately, nothing has been won, but I wish Benfica good luck, "concluded Darwin, before talking about Nicolás Otamendi, the central defender he disliked and learned to adore after landing in the Eagles' stronghold.

I used to tell him he was a bug on the back. He is someone who goes into war at all times without fear. And that identifies me a lot. He's a real warrior. And that astonished me. I only knew him from watching his games on television... and I despised him. I told him, 'I really, really disliked you. When it was Argentina's game against Uruguay, I called him names [laughs]. And as fate would have it, we went to play on the same squad. We are friends for life.
