The transfer of Franck Kessie from AC Milan to Barcelona is ranked as the fifth-most expensive free signing in history. the defensive midfielder, who was valued at the same level as Memphis Depay when he transferred from Lyon to Barcelona in 2021. Kessie is thought to be Frenkie de Jong's possible successor. The most expensive free agency signing in football history is still Lionel Messi. At the time he transferred from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, his market worth was 80 million euros. He yet managed to contribute to nearly 20 goals for the French juggernauts in the 2021–2022 campaign.Aside from Messi, three other former free agents had market values of at least 50 million Euros. The players in question are Gianluigi Donnarumma, David Alaba, and Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich as one of the best free agents in 2014, according to Forbes. He has now emerged as the best player to ever suit up for the German team. De Vrij transferred from Lazio to Inter Milan in 2018. He shared the same market worth as Antonio Rudiger, Aaron Ramsey, and Goretzka.Recall that in the summer of 2022, Antonio Rudiger transferred to Real Madrid after becoming a free agent. His market value was 40 million euros, and if he performs well and wins trophies next season, it may go up. There are plenty additional free agents, though, who might complete their summer transfer this year. If Kylian Mbappe had accepted Real Madrid's offer to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, he might have been on the list. Free agents like Paul Pogba and Paulo Dybala, though, might enter the list after a successful transfer. This summer, a deal between these two players and an Italian team is almost finalized. Which free agent signing with the highest value has been the best overall?

Report: Chelsea handed a major boost in their pursuit of La Liga defender

Chelsea received a huge boost from Fabrizio Romano on Twitter as the London club keeps up its efforts to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde to Stamford Bridge. Barcelona and the Blues are competing for the services of the French international in La Liga.

Kounde has long been a subject of fascination for Chelsea. After losing starting defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to free agency this summer, the Blues are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.

Kounde moved to Sevilla from FC Girondins Bordeaux in France in 2019 and has since made 95 league appearances for the Rojiblancos, contributing to three goals and scoring five. But now that Chelsea is showing interest in the 23-year-old, it appears he may be about to go.

The end of the saga?

Despite losing players this summer, the Blues have failed to make a signing. Kounde might be had for about £60 million, as Sevilla also needs money to restructure their team. Kounde, a center back by trade, can also play left back and right back.

He might play on the right side of Thomas Tuchel's 3-4-2-1 defense as a right-footed center back. After a disappointing campaign in which they were predicted to contend for the League but placed third in the standings, Tuchel must fortify his defense.

For Chelsea, Kounde would be the ideal player. Even at the young age of 23, he has a significant amount of playing experience at the highest level of the game. He may perhaps lead the line for many years to come in addition to helping to some extent with the current defensive issues.

Matthijs de Ligt of Juventus and Nathan Ake of Manchester City have also been linked to Chelsea in the meanwhile. With the start of the preseason only around the corner, Tuchel will want to find a quick solution to this issue. Any of the aforementioned players won't be easy or cheap to sell, so Chelsea needs to be ready to hold firm when the time comes.

It is uncertain whether Kounde will play for Chelsea or another team in the upcoming campaign. The sooner they can obtain his signature, though, the better for everyone concerned.
