Barcelona is willing to fulfill the €85 million midfielder's dream, but only under one condition.

Despite Barcelona needing to generate money, Xavi wants to keep hold of some of its top first-team players.

Football Club Barcelona initially had no problem with Frenkie de Jong leaving the club this summer, but they have since changed their mind. Manchester United has been in contact with the Catalan club for several weeks and is eager to sign the Dutch midfielder.

Although Xavi wants De Jong to stay at Camp Nou, he is aware of the club's current financial struggles. Barcelona value the Netherlands international at around €85 million, which will aid the club in the transfer market.

The Red Devils and Barcelona have a verbal agreement for a €65 million initial cost, but they are still debating the modalities of a €20 million add-on payment. They have not yet spoken about personal terms with De Jong, but once they reach an agreement with the La Liga giants, it should be a fairly simple process.

Nothing has changed about the Frenkie de Jong deal as of Monday, according to Fabrizio Romano, who said, "Structure of the add-ons still to be considered as personal terms too, salary drop highly improbable." Man Utd and Barça are still in touch, but there have been no player-side negotiations.

De Jong has mentioned multiple times this summer that he wants to stay at the Camp Nou. The Dutchman, whose contract runs until 2025, even said he would be willing to dedicate his long-term future to the team if he were to receive a new offer this summer.

De Jong will not be leaving FC Barcelona, according to club president Joan Laporta, who had previously expressed interest in selling the former Ajax star. The Dutchman will have to accept a pay cut moving forward, albeit, as it stands, his anticipated salary for the 2019 campaign is €40 million.

"Other than Man United, other clubs are interested in signing him. He wants to stay, thus we have no plans to sell him "explained Laporta. "I'll do all in my power to maintain Frenkie, but there's also a wage issue and that would have to be changed," the speaker said.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, is eager to reunite with his former midfielder at Old Trafford. De Jong has been a primary target for the former Ajax coach this summer as he attempts to rebuild his midfield in the wake of the exits of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard.
