I came across this question on social media. Joy News to be exact and it hit me what would be my choice? The National Democratic Congress (NDC) that is the late J. E. A Mills and John Mahama were in power for 8 years before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Nana Akuffo Addo took over. These are the two parties that keep governing Ghana in the 4th republic.
In as much as Ghana is a multi-party state because there are several political parties in the country, you could argue that it is a two-party state by de facto meaning my convention or choice. It has only been the NDC or NPP kind of how it has always been the Republican or the Democrat in the US. This situation has made the leaders of the two parties boastful, uncaring about the citizens and many more.
The other party knows that if we kick out his competition from power, then we have no choice than to bring him in as a replacement. This in my opinion has made them lazy, stay untrue to their extravagant policies and do as they please. I thought the governance of the NDC over their 8-year-term has been better than the governance of the NPP but better is not good enough.
It shouldn’t be like this? A situation we choose who did better but a situation where we choose the best leader to govern us. Now Akuffo Addo promised heaven when he came to power but has delivered hell if I would be honest to my feelings. That’s how things have been for about half the citizens living in the country. John Mahama wasn’t any better. So, the question who would I choose had me thinking? What about a third force? It should always be the leaders instead of the party that we vote for but the leaders have come to disappoint just as the parties they represent.
So, I thought if we ditched the NDC and NPP for ones and go in for say PPP, CPP DFP etc. wouldn’t they be some unknown element? After 30 years, we know what to expect from the NDC and NPP. Or better yet if the remaining parties combined their resources and choose a leader, a good one to represent them, wouldn’t they have our votes? I know they just might have mine. I have not voted in an election before but I just might? What do you think of the write up? Please share your views and opinions below. Others have shared their opinions below as well.
