DAILY POST brings you two main reasons Chelsea should prioritize the signing of Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar over Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Both Ronaldo and Neymar have been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.
Just on Saturday, Ronaldo informed Manchester United that he wanted to leave the club.
The Portugal captain returned to Old Trafford last summer from Juventus and ended the 2021-2022 season as Man United’s top scorer.
But the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently unhappy about Man United’s current situation in the ongoing transfer window as they are yet to sign any new player under their new manager, Erik ten Hag, ahead of the new 2022/23 season.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, recently had a meeting with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly over the possibility of the forward making a switch to Stamford Bridge from Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Neymar, on the other hand, has been linked with the west London club recently.
The Brazilian forward was urged by his international teammate, Thiago Silva, who currently plays for Chelsea, to join the former Champions League winner.
This could mean that the Blues will face a tough decision to make a move for either Neymar or Ronaldo this summer.
However, going by the economic implications, it will be impossible for Chelsea to sign both stars.
But, a move for Neymar could be a better bargain for Chelsea this summer, and DAILY POST takes a look at two main reasons the Premier League giant should prioritize the former Barcelona star over Ronaldo.
1. Neymar’s relationship with Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel:
This is one major reason a move for Neymar would be much more ideal for Chelsea than Ronaldo.
Neymar was coached by Tuchel at PSG for two seasons between 2018 and 2020.
It is also widely believed that he played some of his best football at the Parisians under Tuchel’s leadership when the latter was in charge of the French Ligue 1 champions.
Neymar scored an impressive total of 51 goals and registered 32 assists in 67 games under Tuchel at PSG but managed just 13 goals and eight assists under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
And a healthy relationship between both men could be an advantage for Chelsea, unlike Ronaldo, who would be a stranger to Tuchel’s tactical approach and tactics.
2. Neymar’s resale value:
This is another strong reason signing Neymar would be a much better option for Chelsea than Ronaldo.
At age 30, Neymar would definitely command a better transfer fee should Chelsea decide to still sell him in the future, unlike Ronaldo.
Take nothing away from Ronaldo, but considering his current age of 37, the veteran forward won’t be able to offer Chelsea much in the transfer market.
Football is all about business, and Chelsea will certainly have to consider that factor when making any possible transfer decision on both superstars this summer.
