Tyrell Malacia joined Manchester United from Ajax as their first signing of the summer transfer window.
This summer, United pursued Timber and Malacia but only signed the latter.
Jurrien Timber has sent a message to Manchester United's first signing of the summer transfer window, Tyrell Malacia of the Netherlands. Malacia, 22, has signed for an initial fee of €15 million and will join his new teammates on the club's pre-season tour.
After being appointed manager, Erik ten Hag identified Malacia as one of his main targets, and the deal was officially confirmed on Tuesday. United have also agreed to sign Christian Eriksen and are still in talks with Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, as well as Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
Other recruits are expected to arrive as part of a much-needed rebuild, but Malacia will first bask in the spotlight as he prepares to compete with Luke Shaw for a position at left-back. His fee from Feyenoord could be increased by €2 million in add-ons.
Ten Hag was tasked with identifying and targets after leaving Amsterdam for Old Trafford at the end of last season, with a third Eredivisie title under his belt. The Dutchman initially targeted Timber, but that would-be Ajax swoop has since fallen by the wayside.
Eriksen, De Jong, and Martinez are still on United's radar, and the club is also interested in Brazilian forward Antony after he played a key role for the club last season.
Malacia took to Instagram after signing a €15 million switch to send a message to her 278,000 followers. "It's an incredible feeling to sign for Manchester United," it said. Let us savor this moment before turning our attention to the future.
Timber and other celebrities liked his post. In addition, Timber included two heart eyes emojis, as if to stamp his approval.
