Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, wants Franck Mbella Etougato to stay amid rumours that the striker may leave the team.
After a remarkable debut season in Ghana, the Cameroonian, who still has two years left on his Kotoko contract, is reportedly on the wishlists of several overseas teams.
Etouga has reportedly discussed a move with a number of teams, according to local media sources.
In helping Kotoko win the Ghana Premier League last season, Etouga scored 20 goals. According to Ogum, Etouga can be a huge asset as Kotoko attempts to defend their league championship while also participating in the CAF Champions League.
"I desire that Franck Mbella remain at Kotoko. That is what I want," Ogum informed ATL in Cape Coast. "I want Kotoko players that are driven and eager to establish themselves. Africa may be affected by Kotoko. All we need to do is do thorough preparation, particularly with player recruiting.
Ogum made the significant transfer to Kotoko after leading WAFA to a top-four finish in the 2020–21 season. Some people had their doubts about his hiring, but Ogum is adamant that by winning the league in his first season, he disproved them.
"When I was heading to Kotoko, several people didn't think I could make it. However, I had faith in my ability to perform at Kotoko. My goal is for Kotoko to win and play solid football.
We are now at the earliest and most basic stage of my game model, training programmes, and Kotoko's gameplay. The second phase will be wonderful, according to Ogum.
Ogum also stated that he wanted to sign a two-year extension with the team.
"I will honour the terms of my two-year deal with Kotoko. I am for Kotoko and I adore serving them, despite the fact that certain clubs outside of Ghana have solicited my services," he stated.
"My players and I now have a better understanding of one another. I thus prefer that they all remain in Kotoko. Despite the fact that I am aware of the financial side of football, [the squad] is travelling to Africa.
