Black Stars Captain Andre Dede Ayew welcomes new Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams to the senior national team. Ayew in a tweet responded to Williams' announcement video with "welcome home brother".
Spanish born Ghanaian Athletico Bilbao forward, Inaki Williams has announced his decision to "defend the t-shirt of the Ghana Black Stars".
The 27-year-old was born in Spain to Ghanaian parents and had declined a request by officials of the Ghana Football Association to switch nationality and play for Ghana as against Spain. Inaki Williams in a friendly match in 2016 played for Spain against Bosnia and Herzogovina.
Officials of the Ghana Football Association pursued him has successfully gotten a positive response from the Athletico Bilbao forward who has stated that, he will defend the Black Stars T-shirt.
"Every step we take forward has it's own meaning. An evolution. A glance into the future which leaves a trace itself. A legacy. My parents have raised me with values based on humility, respect and love", he said.
"They have taught me to embrace life. In that constant quest to continue growing and working upon the pursuit of evolving personally and professionally as an individual".
" That is why I feel the moment has come for me to find my origins within myself and with Africa and Ghana which means much to me and my family. I want to return a small part of everything it has given to us because Ghana has played a significant part of becoming who I am as a person, as a son and brother".
" Today a new challenge begins. From now on, I will defend Ghana's T-shirt with all my will whilst I give my best. I am one of the Black Stars".
Processes have commenced and FIFA is expected to clear Inaki Williams to be a full Ghanaian Interrnational who will be eligible for future national team call-ups.
Other foreign based Ghanaian players who may switch nationalities are Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, Eddie Nketiah, and others.
