Despite the nation's economic difficulties, there is some optimism for Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) recipients.
The government aims to transfer NABCO trainees to the yet-to-be-launched YouStart programme, according to the information minister.
Speaking on JoyNews' The Probe, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that the action is a long-term solution to Ghana's rising unemployment rate.
The government has made it clear that NABCO members would be enrolled in the YouStart programme, which is designed to provide them with the funding and technical assistance they need to launch their own enterprises, he added.
The Ghana CARES program's YouStart project was launched to remove obstacles for current and potential young entrepreneurs.
The government's strategy, according to finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta, includes encouraging young people to be agents of change.
He emphasised that the plan will make sure that skill development was much more closely matched to industry demands as the engines of future productivity growth and socioeconomic transformation.
A group of NABCO trainees appealed for the programme to be suspended until their allowances are paid even before the government could decide on a launch date.
The trainees have long complained about the failure to pay their allowances, which have been past due for the previous seven months.
The Ofoase-Ayirebi MP acknowledged that NABCO recipients struggle to make ends meet but insisted that the Akufo-Addo administration still prioritises youth employment.
In order to assure the success of the effort, he requested the trainees' cooperation with the government.
"I can relate to the suffering that the NABCO recipients are experiencing as a result of the scarce resources. Many times when I visit my constituency, I have to pay for some of my NABCO volunteers who work in the hospitals but we don't raise any awareness of it.
But we understand their suffering, and we anticipate that the YouStart Program will be implemented soon so that everyone may be switched over to it, he stated on Sunday.
