'Complete' player now set for talks with PSG, after claims Arsenal were just £8.5m away from signing him - Romano
Gianluca Scamacca was reportedly the subject of a bid from Arsenal this summer but is now set for fresh talks with PSG. Fabrizio Romano says the French champions are set for discussions with the Italian international over adding him to their strikeforce. It was reported in June that Arsenal were just £8.5 million away from signing the striker from Sassoulo, but have since signed Gabriel Jesus. With Eddie Nketiah signing a new deal and other areas of the Gunners’ XI needing work, it seems unlikely that Mikel Arteta will sign another striker this summer. PSG have an imbalanced frontline with big egos, and players who do not press so much and those teams always need foils. Perhaps Scamacca would not be guaranteed as much gametime in Paris as he would have got at Arsenal if he had gone there. But Champions League football and huge wages are on offer in the French capital, and it seems PSG now have a freer run at him. Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United have both been linked with the Italian in the past and the latter are still yet to sign a striker this summer. But PSG are in the box seat as it stands and Arsenal fans will not feel they have missed out so long as Jesus does the business in a red and white shirt. Have something to tell us about this article?

Arsenal have been focusing their attention on signing a new striker this summer and have been linked with many options. It now seems that Arsenal have secured their striker of the future having agreed a deal to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. Jesus is understood to have undergone a medical with Arsenal on Tuesday and his arrival should be confirmed very soon. Arsenal now won’t be in the market for another striker and that means some of their other targets may head elsewhere. 7 Biggest Falls From Grace in Football Since 2017 BridTV 9548 7 Biggest Falls From Grace in Football Since 2017 992992 992992 center 13872 One of the names in the mix was Sassuolo hitman Gianluca Scamacca. 90Min reported earlier this month that Arsenal were reading an official offer for Scamacca after shining in Italy. It was suggested that Edu was personally keen on luring Scamacca to North London this summer. Scamacca, 23, hit 16 goals in Serie A last season and has now become a key feature of the Italian national team setup. A giant 6ft 5in target man, Scamacca would have been something completely different for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal attack. Yet with Jesus now set to join, there will no need for Scamacca at Arsenal. New sporting director Luis Campos is looking for a different profile at PSG; it won’t be all glitz and glamour anymore, with a stronger focus on signing talent with high potential. That’s where Campos has always excelled with Monaco and Lille, with PSG now set to benefit. Get French Football News report that PSG have agreed personal terms with Scamacca as well as Milan Skriniar and Renato Sanches. PSG still need to secure an agreement with Sassuolo but it looks like Scamacca now has a real chance at a huge move to France. Arsenal will hope that Jesus is the striker they need, but seeing Scamacca potential shine with PSG would sting regardless.
