Bergwijn set to return to Netherlands (Picture: Getty) Manchester United were ready to pay £34million to sign Steven Bergwijn but the Tottenham forward is now on the brink of a move to Ajax. Bergwijn joined Spurs from PSV Eindhoven in 2020 but is now set to complete a return to Netherlands to join the Dutch champions. Reports in Netherlands claim Ajax have now agreed a fee of £26m with the north London side, having already agreed personal terms with the forward last month. Bergwijn is now set to undergo a medical ahead of the move. Ajax, then managed by Erik ten Hag, initially tried to sign Bergwijn during the January transfer window with the Dutch manager a huge admirer of the 24-year-old. After being named the new United manager, reports suggested ten Hag was still keen on the Spurs forward with De Telegraaf reporting concrete interest from Old Trafford.
