Paul Scholes creates a disturbing statement. Man United's "clown" observation comes amid the Cristiano Ronaldo exit drama.

With more Cristiano Ronaldo-related headaches, one of Manchester United's greatest ever players is clearly dissatisfied with the way things are going at Old Trafford.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has warned that if Cristiano Ronaldo's future is not resolved, Erik ten Hag's reign could devolve into a "circus."

Scholes, an ex-Red Devils midfielder, re-posted a news article claiming that United officials are worried Ronaldo will miss the club's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. Along with the repost, the retired United legend added his own comment, which read: "Let the circus begin."

The Portuguese forward rejoined the club less than a year ago but is now looking to leave Old Trafford with a year left on his current contract. Ronaldo has sparked further outrage and confusion among Manchester United supporters by failing to report for pre-season training as of yet.

On Monday, July 4, the 37-year-old was supposed to return from his summer vacation and return to work at Carrington. However, Ronaldo was not present on the date or the day after citing family obligations as the reason for his absence.

United are now dealing with increased speculation about Ronaldo's future, which has come at an inconvenient time for new manager Ten Hag as he attempts to settle into life as Red Devils manager. Ronaldo has been irritated by the Dutchman's transfer dealings, or lack thereof.

The record goal-scorer in international football believes that the Red Devils' business so far this window has not matched his ambition. United have only signed Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia so far, having hijacked Lyon's deal for the 22-year-old.

Having said that, they are also on the verge of signing former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen as a free agent after his six-month stint at Brentford ended. The Danish international kept the club waiting for his decision, but he appears to have decided on a move to Old Trafford.

Next on the transfer wish list is Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, who is proving a more difficult target to persuade. United are said to have reached an agreement with the La Liga giants on De Jong's fee, but personal terms are another story.

Ten Hag is juggling overseeing potential incomings with the constant headache that is now Ronaldo's future and everything that comes with it. It is inconvenient for the new United manager at the moment, but the situation will worsen if the forward refuses to join the club on its pre-season tour.
