Chelsea are preparing a high-value bid for Sporting's Matheus Nunes.

According to A Bola (via Daily Express), Chelsea will make their first offer for Matheus Nunes in the coming hours.

Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Sporting CP and Portugal's national team, began his career at Ericeirense. Since being promoted to Sporting Lisbon's senior team in 2020, the Portuguese international has played in 99 games across all competitions, directly contributing to 15 goals.

Todd Boehly, the new owner who replaced Roman Abramovich, is willing to pay £43 million (£39 million plus £4 million in add-ons) for Sporting Lisbon's Matheus Nunes in order to gain an advantage over Wolves and Everton. The Blues are preparing to make a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

Nunes would be among the wise choices in reviving the the midfield.

Last season, the 23-year-old central midfielder shone so brightly in the Champions League that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola singled him out for praise.

Will Chelsea be able to complete Nunes' transfer?

Chelsea's midfield is becoming increasingly problematic, and Nunes would be an ideal addition to Tuchel's squad.

Jorginho and N'Golo Kante, both important midfielders, have contracts that expire in the summer of 2023. Although Jorginho's agent has scheduled extension talks for September, Kante's future remains uncertain. Mateo Kovacic, a third key member of Tuchel's squad, has a contract that expires in 2024.

Chelsea made an unsuccessful attempt to add Saul Niguez to their roster last summer. The loanee from Atletico Madrid struggled to find his place at Chelsea and in the Premier League.

However, given the success of recent Portuguese league transfers to the Premier League, the Blues may have even more success this time around if they sign Nunes.

It would make sense for Thomas Tuchel to look for a new, younger midfielder. It remains to be seen whether the West London team is successful in closing the deal.
