Andy Robertson of Liverpool is determined to make Premier League history next season.

Andy Robertson has the potential to break a long-standing Premier League record next season, but his Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold is more likely to do so one day.

Andy Robertson is in a strong position to break the Premier League record for most assists by a defender, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is hot on his tail.

Robertson, 28, has 49 Premier League assists for Hull City and Liverpool, the second-most in the competition's 30-year history, and is only 10 behind Leighton Baines' record. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold, 23, has only four fewer than his Anfield counterpart.

Baines, 37, was a former England international who played for Wigan and Everton in the Premier League and made over 600 professional appearances for club and country. Baines, like Robertson, was a left-back.

During the 2022-23 season, Robertson will be confident of breaking Baines' record. Last season, he had 10 Premier League assists and scored three goals. That was the third time he had double-digit assists in a single Premier League season.

When compared to the number of games he's played, the Scotland captain's creative record appears to be very impressive. Robertson has appeared in 218 Premier League games to date, while Baines appeared in 418 games between 2005 and 2020.

Last season, Robertson became the Scot with the most Premier League assists, surpassing Gary McAllister's tally of 47. The former midfielder, who now works as Steven Gerrard's assistant at Aston Villa, previously played for Leeds, Coventry, and Liverpool in the English Premier League.

Perhaps the only man standing in Robertson's way of breaking Baines' record is Alexander-Arnold, who is capable of passing his teammate next season. Last season, the Englishman had 12 Premier League assists, second only to teammate Mohamed Salah (13).

Alexander-Arnold has a fantastic goal-scoring record. During his Premier League career, he has 45 assists and 10 goals in 161 games. At only 23 years old, he'll be hoping to outperform Baines and Robertson in the charts in the coming seasons.

In fact, Alexander-Arnold could retire as the Premier League's all-time assist leader. Ryan Giggs, a former Manchester United winger, currently holds that honor after providing 162 assists during his 22-year Premier League career, during which he won 13 titles.

Robertson and Alexander-Arnold have both been instrumental in Liverpool's success under Jurgen Klopp. Since 2018, the two defenders have helped Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

"I think he's a better passer than [David] Beckham, a better crosser than Beckham," former England winger Joe Cole said in April. "That's saying a lot considering Becks was the best of my generation."

Former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand added: "I don't care if Trent is the best passer on the planet right now. I screamed when I saw one of his passes yesterday. And it's not often that passes do that to me. The way he passes the ball is out or order. It's not just the execution, but also the vision."
