Felix Afena-Gyan, a forward with the Black Stars, has agreed to a new four-year contract with Serie A powerhouse AS Roma.
The 19-year-old has signed a new professional deal that will keep him at the club until 2026 following a breakthrough season under José Mourinho.
Afena-Gyan made his Serie A debut for AS Roma in the team's 2-1 victory over Cagliari in October, and since then, he has been given opportunities to prove his value.
Roma was down 1-0 to Cagliari in the 57th minute when the 19-year-old came on to replace Matias Vina, and his contribution helped José Mourinho's team win.
He made 17 Serie A games in his rookie season and netted two goals.
In addition, he made three appearances in the UEFA Conference League, which Roma won with his assistance.
Afena-Gyan made his Serie A debut as well as his first call-up to the Black Stars under Otto Addo when Ghana narrowly defeated Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers.
During Ghana's 3-0 victory against Madagascar at Cape Coast in the AFCON 2023 qualifying matches, he also scored his first goal for the Black Stars.
Prior to the 2022–2023 season, there are rumors that the Black Stars forward may be loaned out, but Citi Sports investigations reveal that he will stay at AS Roma.
Afena-Gyan, who was born in Sunyani, Ghana,[1] transferred from EurAfrica FC to the youth squad of Serie A club Roma on March 13, 2021.
Afena-Gyan made his debut with the senior squad on October 24 against Napoli in a Serie A matchup between Roma and Napoli. On October 27, he played his first game as a professional against Cagliari. He scored two goals against Genoa on November 21 after coming off the bench, giving Roma a 2-0 victory. He became the first player born in 2003 to score in Serie A thanks to his brace. At the conclusion of his first professional campaign, the Ghanaian attacker played a total of 22 matches for the Italian team, and he also made three appearances in their championship win in the inaugural UEFA
