At the moment, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo are teammates for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo may leave Manchester United this summer. And if it takes place, Jadon Sancho might end up with the No. 7 jersey. Now that that is the case, it is time to take a look back at the England international's thoughts on the jersey since it may soon become available once more.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in August of last year after first appearing to be on his way to Manchester City.

After it was revealed that the Portugal international would return to Manchester for another shot, rumors about his jersey number started to circulate.

When Ronaldo originally joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2002, just before David Beckham left for Real Madrid, he wore the No. 7 jersey.

However, Edinson Cavani was using that number when he arrived back.

Cavani had worn the uniform for the 2020–2021 campaign, starring as the team advanced to the Europa League final and tallying 17 goals across all competitions.

Sancho was really United's top transfer target that summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the England international in 2020, but the club and the valuable asset's owner, Borussia Dortmund, could not come to an agreement on a transfer fee.

Sancho did ultimately decide to move last summer, and the lowered price was £73m.

The England international first believed he would be assigned the No. 7, The Athletic reported early in the season.

Sancho believed United chiefs were still willing to offer him the jersey they desired most because he had been guaranteed it until 2020.

But that didn't take place.

Despite Solskjaer making it clear that Sancho will be a crucial component of his Old Trafford plan, Cavani was unwilling to part with his uniform for the forward.

And that caused the England star to feel "confused" about the entire situation, leading him to select the No. 25 as a substitute.

After a year, it's now possible that Sancho will get the No. 7 jersey if Ronaldo is let go.

The club has publicly reaffirmed that the 37-year-old will remain for the remainder of his contract, which is set to expire in the summer of 2023.

However, if a good offer comes through, it appears United are willing to let Ronaldo go and his £500,000 weekly salary.

Chelsea is considering a move for the Portugal international, and super-agent Jorge Mendes and new owner Todd Boehly have discussed it.

Robert Lewandowski's future is uncertain, and Barcelona is interested in signing the Polish international. Bayern Munich is keeping an eye on the situation.

In addition, Barcelona itself has been mentioned in the conversation, despite the fact that Ronaldo previously spent nine years at Real Madrid, a strong competitor.

One candidate for the No. 7 jersey at United would be Sancho, which might even help the former Manchester City star regain his best form.

But only time will tell what will ultimately happen to the jersey and Ronaldo.

Jimmy-Floyd Hasslebaink recently urged United to let Ronaldo go despite the fact that there aren't any obvious alternatives.

You don't want a guy that is miserable, especially one of that caliber, he remarked.

"You desire his happiness. When working with Ronaldo, it is inevitable that he will be the focal point of your team.

"However, if he is dissatisfied, you might consider using the money you pay for other members of the team.

You won't be able to take his spot, but you can improve the team in other ways.

"If Ronaldo wants to leave, you should, in my opinion, let him. He may be able to play in the Champions League for one more season at this point in his life.

In order to strengthen the team, attempt to assemble a stronger squad and sell him for as much money is possible.
