For many years, no Argentine player was more valuable than Lionel Messi. According to Transfermarkt, another member of Lionel Scaloni's squad has a higher market value than the PSG superstar.

Lionel Messi's senior international debut for Argentina at the age of 18 may not have gone as planned, as he was sent off 45 seconds after coming off the bench. But it didn't take long for him to live up to the hype.

While the Rosario-born winger established himself in Barcelona's starting lineup, he also became an untouchable player in La Albiceleste. Messi, like Diego Maradona, was eventually given the iconic No. 10 shirt — both for Barcelona and the national team.

Despite playing alongside other superstars, no other Argentine player came close to Messi in the modern era. For many years, he was widely regarded as the world's best player, so it came as no surprise that his market value was higher than everyone else's. But, despite continuing to be the best in his country, things may have changed now that he's 35.

Lionel Messi is no longer the most valuable Argentine player in the world.

A player's market value will most likely decrease as he ages. Messi is no exception, and his poor first season with Paris Saint-Germain may not have helped him either.

Messi is no longer the most valuable player in Argentina's national team, according to Transfermarkt. Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez currently has the highest market value in Lionel Scaloni's squad.
