Chelsea will make an offer to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo that is less valuable than Lazar Markovic
Just days after the Portuguese megastar made it obvious that he wants to leave Manchester United this summer, Chelsea is preparing to make a shocking £14 million offer for Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to reports, Chelsea is planning to make Cristiano Ronaldo a lowball offer in an effort to free the Portuguese legend from his dreadful situation with Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag received a shock earlier this week when Ronaldo revealed that he intends to leave the team this summer. The striker is keen to participate in the Champions League the next season, but United can only provide Europa League football after their failures finished sixth in the Premier League.
One of the clubs connected with an early bid for the United star is the Blues, and it seems the Londoners are willing to try and steal the veteran striker for a pittance.
Despite Manchester United's recent insistence that their talisman was not for sale, rumours claim that Chelsea is willing to spend £14 million to lure Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge.
Although it appears that United now accepts that they will lose Ronaldo's services this summer, it is still unclear whether the Blues' pitiful offer, which is less than what Liverpool paid to sign the failure Lazar Markovic to an Anfield contract, will be sufficient to convince United to do business with one of their top-flight rivals.
Ronaldo, who is anxious to maintain his 19-year record of Champions League action, has also been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Napoli.
All three teams would be able to provide Ronaldo with the Champions League action he desires, but it is uncertain if Bayern or Napoli would be able to support the superstar's extravagant salaries, which are said to be in the neighborhood of £480,000 per week.
Ronaldo's extravagant salary would not present a problem for Chelsea, who are now again active in the transfer market following Todd Boehly's £2.5 billion takeover earlier this summer.
Ronaldo would be the ideal marquee addition for the LA Dodgers co-owner, who is eager to announce his ownership of the team. Raheem Sterling's £45 million transfer to the Blues is likewise thought to be imminent.
