Adwoa Safo has done it again

Sarah Adwoa Safo, a member of parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, has neglected to show up before the privileges committee to respond to inquiries on her absences from the legislature.

Speaker Alban Bagbin submitted her behavior as well as those of two New Patriotic Party (MP) members to the Committee.

The MP has yet to appear in person or via the video conference connection that was supplied to her despite the Committee publishing her invitation in the national dailies and giving her the option to do so.

According to Joy News, the privileges committee claims that despite none of the administrators or committee members having personally contacted her, they have attempted to invite her and send the link through her known addresses in Ghana and abroad, her email accounts, and contacts close to her without success.

The committee has been waiting for her for the past two hours, but she has not yet shown up.

Due to Sara Adwoa Safo's frequent absences from the House, the Privileges Committee has requested that she appear before it on July 6, 2022.

Since the member of parliament couldn't be reached, committee chairman Joseph Osei Owusu gave the order for the summons to be made public.

The Hon. Member for Dome Kwabenya has been summoned by the Chairman of the Privileges Committee to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament on July 6, 2022 at noon in the Committee Rooms 1, 2, and 3 of the New Administration Block at Parliament House, in accordance with Article 103(6) of the Constitution and Order205 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

This follows the Committee's complete failure to contact the Honourable Member, according to a statement from the Parliamentary Service.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has given the Privileges Committee the duty of speaking with Adwoa Safo, Kennedy Agyapong, and Henry Quartey over allegations of persistent absences made against them.

The three must provide valid explanations for their absences; else, their removal from the House of Representatives will be considered.

The Committee claimed that it "has tried all available means, both official and unofficial, to serve the Member with an invitation letter, including sending the invitation letter to her office and pigeonhole in Parliament," but it hasn't heard back from her.

Adwoa Safo, meanwhile, claimed to be in the US and not have received any invitation from the committee in a prior interview with Joy News.
