Nana Akomea, the managing director of Inter-City STC, has encouraged the government to form a committee that includes everyone before contacting the IMF (IMF).
A "wide front," in his opinion, will guarantee an agreement that will be better for the nation. On Accra's Peace FM, Mr. Akomea suggested names and claimed Seth Terkper, a former finance minister, ought should be on the list.
He believed that because Mr. Terkper had experience working with the IMF, he might "bring something to the table." "Since this is a national issue, labour and business representatives should attend the government's team meeting with the IMF. There should be a few NDC members as well.
"Seth Terkper should be included since he has experience working with the IMF and even led the NDC when they visited the Fund. We need a wide front, he said on Wednesday, so that's why.
News surfaced on July 1 that President Akufo-Addo has ordered Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to start official negotiations with the IMF for an economic programme.
There has already been a call between President Akufo-Addo and Kristalina Georgieva, the head of the IMF, to inform her of the government's determination to work with the Fund, according to a document released by the Information Ministry.
Due to this, the government has been urged to appoint specialists to oversee the talks with the IMF delegation that arrived in the nation on Tuesday. Isaac Adongo, the MP for Bolgatanga Central, has already requested that government economists like Kwame Pianim and entrepreneur Sam Jonah be invited to the engagements.
"They need to start looking for Kwame Pianim right away. Sam Jonah and Ishmael Yamson, two of our nation's brightest minds, should be brought in since he is the only one who can lead and save them. This task is not child's play because it is comparable to the 1983 challenge, he stated.
Speaking at a news conference in Parliament, Mr. Adongo asserted that the present negotiation team, which includes the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, was unable to get any favourable programme for the nation to solve its issues.
