The Kumasi Regional Court granted bail to a Nigerian man, Anthony Mamah, 38, who was arrested in Alabar on suspicion of selling counterfeit Apsonic appliances to customers in Kumasi. He is expected to appear again in court on July 20, 2022. According to product managers alone, they have been receiving complaints from many people, who have expressed dissatisfaction with their products, which when investigating the matter, they realize that there are some people who are selling fake. Apsonic motors' head of marketing and marketing, Abdul-Karim Nasam, who was in court, told Citi News that the incident had a negative impact on its operations. “We have been facing the problem of counterfeit parts in this country. We are the only manufacturers of Apsonic products and more recently, we have wasted and invested heavily in advertising to emphasize product quality. But we realized that most of our sister distributors (especially those from the Nigerian community) were copying our product case and owning fake car parts, importing cheap ones and selling them to the public. Most of the complaints came from our customers, ”added Abdul-Karim Nasam. Abdul-Karim Nasam says that based on the frequency with which they receive complaints, they have decided to trace the origin of counterfeit products. “We have seen that one Nigerian brought counterfeit parts to the market, but the customers do not know. When you see the case, it is green with Apsonic engraved on the products. If they buy and repair their cars, it will not take even a month for them to break down. The district manager and his team helped track down and together with his team and the police, they helped catch a person who was selling and importing and destroying the market ”. Ashanti regional head of law and prosecution, ACP Kofi Blagodzi believes that prosecuting the suspect could help curb the crime. "We are prosecuting this case to ensure that there is cleanliness in our system."
