Jack Wilshere, a former midfielder for Arsenal, has advised Manchester United to recruit Declan Rice, a midfielder for West Ham, this summer in order to address their midfield woes. While Erik ten Hag's team is close to signing Christian Eriksen and has made moves to sign Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona, Wilshere thinks Rice is the midfielder they really need.

Declan Rice, I'll let you know what United needs, Wilshere said to talkSPORT. United require him. West Ham has maintained that if their asking price of £150 million for the England international is met, they won't let their midfield general leave the club this summer.

Although the club reportedly has the option to extend Rice's contract by another year, the 23-year-old has not demonstrated a desire to do so. Rice has two years left on his current deal at the London Stadium. Last year, West Ham manager David Moyes claimed that Declan, who cost £100 million, represented a bargain. "That deal has since expired. Declan Rice is on par with some of my top players, for sure.Due to his advanced age, he has the potential to improve as well. Because of his age, he may develop and progress more effectively.

"There's a lot of room for that to grow when you're 23 and you're playing a lot of games. It would be difficult to argue that Declan Rice hasn't played as well as any other England player since those finals if you consider the England group from the Euros that lost in the final.

Rice has previously been associated with both United and Chelsea. The English international was released by Chelsea when he was 14 years old before joining the West Ham academy, but he does have aspirations to play at the highest level of the game.

In an interview with former Manchester United defender Gary Neville for the Overlap podcast, Rice stated, "I have always said it, I don't want to have a career where I've not won anything. "When I was a young child, I watched all these elite athletes win trophies, the Premier League, and the Champions League.

I want to win the Premier League, I want to hold up the trophy, I want to win the Champions League, I want to win the FA Cups, I want to win the League Cups, even with England, I want to win it all.

If United follows Wilshere's advise, they won't have to worry about Rice's jersey number. The club's preferred number 41 jersey for the midfielder is currently available, and Rice has already indicated why he chooses that number.

On The Overlap, Rice also stated, "I was handed 41 when I traveled to Seattle on my first tour with the first team. "I recently received 41, and it has stuck with me ever since. I just think Rice 41 has a great ring to it, and because I've always played in that number and am a little superstitious about such things, I'm not sure if switching to a different number will affect how well I perform. Sometimes, I have thoughts similar to that.
