CHELSEA'S FUTILE PURSUIT OF RONALDO PUTS THEM AT RISK OF MAKING THE SAME ERROR AS ROMELU LUKAKU.

According to reports, CHELSEA is interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

After successfully offloading Romelu Lukaku last week, Chelsea is now in a position to move on, but their futile pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo suggests that the Londoners haven't learnt anything from their costly transfer error. Less than a year after the Blues spent a club-record £97.5 million to bring Lukaku back to the city for a second stint, he was released.

Lukaku left Stamford Bridge after a dismal year and returned to Inter Milan last week on a season-long loan. Thierry Henry questioned why the Londoners chased the Belgian striker since he struggled to create an impression and seemed to be a bad fit for Thomas Tuchel's tactical strategy

for the 29-year-old, it was such a huge thing.

I asked myself, "Would he fit into this team? right from the start?" Henry spoke with CBS in February. "When you go and get Lukaku as a coach, you will either have to adjust your style of play to suit him or make him adapt to it. I didn't anticipate that to occur.

"Rom will need time and effort to adjust to Chelsea's style of play. He just gets seven touches [against Crystal Palace], is that normal? No, regardless of whether the coach likes you or not, that is also not usual. That must not occur.

"They must go with it, but it's a difficult document to read. To be quite honest with you, I have no idea how that can happen in 90 minutes. But what is the answer? He needs to come up with a plan to ensure he can adjust to the way they play.

They enjoy exerting pressure, being energetic, and switching up the front three. He finds it very challenging to adjust to the circumstance since he prefers to stay in the middle. However, why exactly did you go and grab him?

Unbelievably, Chelsea can find themselves in the same situation if they reach an agreement to hire Ronaldo. The Portuguese veteran's possible next stop appears to be the Blues He seemed to be desperate to leave Manchester United after they failed to make the Champions League.

Ronaldo also seems to fit Tuchel's strategy strangely, though. It's difficult to imagine Ronaldo, who will turn 38 later this season, performing any better than the Blues club-record flop if Lukaku had the stamina to press in the German's preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Ronaldo still guarantees goals at the highest level, but there are some sobering limitations to his astounding results. Tuchel would need to modify his strategies, just like United did last season, to get the most out of the former Juventus star.

It's difficult to understand why a team that actually bases their game around a coherent press would be interested in installing Ronaldo as their new No. 9. Ronaldo was criticized last year for his inability to press in a team that wasn't exactly renowned for its pressing capabilities.

After it became apparent that Lukaku's romantic return to Stamford Bridge wouldn't end happily, Tuchel suffered from a costly headache for the majority of the previous season. Even if Ronaldo were to be the star summer acquisition that the Blues' new co-owner Todd Boehly so much wants, it would not make sense for him to consent to what would be a terrifyingly similar situation this year.
