Vinicius Souza 'to sign for Espanyol' as Celtic transfer chase comes to an end

The 23-year-old has been chased by a clutch of clubs but it appears the La Liga side will win the race for his signature. Reports on Wednesday he was closing in on PSV were played down but Celtic will not land the signature of the Lommel man - who is owned by the City Group. His eye-popping stats on loan had him on Ange Postecoglou 's radar but he is set to plump for a switch to Espanyol. And Fabrizio Romano states: "Espanyol are set to sign Brazilian midfielder Vinícius Souza. Deal in place after many approaches from different clubs. It’s almost done. Player now already in Spain in order to complete the move. And on Wednesday, a source close to the talks told Record Sport it was time for the midfielder to make his decision. They said: “If Souza - or his agents - aren’t prepared to commit then the club will simply have to look elsewhere because it’s an area of the team that the manager wants to address as a matter of urgency. Souza absolutely fits the bill in terms of what’s required but he’s not the only option.” Postecoglou admitted on Wednesday he is looking for a couple more quality additions ahead of his side's return to the Champions League. CELTIC's pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza looks set to be over as the Lommel midfielder looks set to seal a move to La Liga side Espanyol, according to a report. Celtic have been linked with a move for the Brazilian midfielder over the last month or so but it looks like he's off to Spain. 1 Celtic's pursuit of the Brazilian is dead Any potential move to Glasgow that was there to be done is now dead in the water according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Italian journalist put all but an end to any Hoops fans hopes of a move for the enforcer with an update on social media this evening. He said: "Espanyol are set to sign Brazilian midfielder Vinícius Souza. "Deal in place after many approaches from different clubs. It’s almost done. "Player now already in Spain in order to complete the move" The departures of long serving Celtic duo Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic at the end of last season has seen Ange Postecoglou search for additions in th emiddle of the park. Belgian side Lommel are a part of the City Football Group, headed by parent club Manchester City. It had been suggested the good relationship between the Citizens and the Parkhead top brass would leave Celtic in a strong position to land Souza. The likes of Schalke, Real Betis, Fenerbache and PSV have all been credited with an interest obtaining the players services but it appears Espanyol have won the race. The Hoops have already signed loan stars Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Daizen Maeda on permanent deals, with goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist and left back Alexandro Bernabei the other two new arrivals so far.
