Following their fraud trial in Switzerland, former Fifa president Sepp Blatter and vice president Michel Platini were both found not guilty.

The two were on trial for a 2011 transfer of 2 million Swiss francs (£1.6 million) from Blatter to Platini.

Both individuals had said that the transfer was late payment for Platini's consulting services for Fifa and denied any impropriety.

Blatter said, "I am not innocent in my life, but in this instance I am innocent," as he entered the court on Friday.

Blatter, 86, and Platini, a former president of Uefa, were both banned from sport in 2015 and charged with criminal offences in November.

I won my opening match, Platini

Their 11-day trial on the 2011 payment, which began after a case was initiated in 2015, was held at the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona and ended on June 22.

After seven years of deceit and deception, justice has been served, and I wanted to share my satisfaction for all of my loved ones, said Platini.

"During this trial, the truth has come to light, and I really appreciate the tribunal's judges' independence in reaching their judgement.

My struggle is a fight against injustice, I kept saying. My first game was won.

"There are offenders in this case who did not show up for the trial. Let them know that they can rely on me; we shall cross paths again because I will not give up and will pursue the truth to its logical conclusion.

The Frenchman Platini is a three-time Ballon d'Or winner and had a great playing career in football.

He won the European Cup with Juventus in 1985 after leading France to victory in the 1984 European Championship.

Platini eventually became the French national team's coach and was elected president of Uefa in 2007.

He resigned as Uefa's president and was later banned when Fifa's ethics committee looked into his actions as part of a larger effort to purge corruption from the organisation. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) dismissed his appeal against the suspension in 2020.

Platini said, "Believe me, it's extremely hard to go from being a legend of international soccer to the devil, especially when it happens in a completely unjust way.

Blatter is a Swiss businessman and sports official who joined Fifa in 1975 before rising to the position of general secretary in 1981 and then president in 1998.

He served in that capacity for 17 years until being barred from football for eight years, which was ultimately lowered to six, as a result of an ethics committee probe by Fifa.

Following an investigation into incentive payments by the ethics committee in 2021, he was given a second six-year suspension.

Blatter commented after the decision was made: "I am absolutely comfortable since for seven years I was constantly under pressure because a case had been filed against me.

"Now that it is completed, I am pleased. I'm also excited about international soccer.

Justice has been served, but I have won this battle.
