The Berekum Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old resident of Dwenem in Jaman South Municipality, Gideon Asuako, to seven years imprisonment for stealing.
Gideon and an accomplice stole a portion of an artificial grass meant for the construction of a sports field at Faaman in the Municipality.
He was however arrested on July 4, 2022, at his hideout to assist with police investigations into the missing items.
He was slapped with three counts of unlawful entry, unlawful damage, and stealing before the Berekum Circuit Court.
He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to his plea.
The court presided over by His Lordship Osei Kofi Amoako, sentence him to seven years with hard labor.
The judge has also issued a bench warrant for Gideon Asuako’s accomplice, Stephen, a student of the University of Education, Winneba who is also a relative to the convict.
Stealing us is one of the most serious crimes in the world punishable by law, perpetrators can spend years in prison and sometimes lynched to death and get caught by the mob. They have been countless cases of people spending time in jail others lynched to death but it seems people do not live to learn.
The astroturf thief has been sent to 7 years imprisonment and his accomplices are on the run and have been declared wanted by the police.

The immediate past Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, has been appointed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to assess the physical policy of Ghana.
As Ghana submits a bailout request before the IMF, Mr. Domelebvo will be key in determining if Ghana is granted the request or not.
Mr. Domelevo who was relieved of his position by President Akufo-Addo for refusing to go on retirement has been working with the IMF after the unfortunate episode.
